Joan C. Browning is a free-lance writer and educator in West Virginia. She expresses the values that brought her to the Civil Rights Movement as a citizen and “villager” supporting quality of life initiatives, children’s programs, and libraries, and is part time development consultant to Greenbrier Community College Foundation. She is a member of the WV Supreme Court of Appeals’ Fatality Review Committee which advises the Court on ways to prevent deaths in domestic violence incidents, is designated by the WV Women’s Commission as a state women’s leader, recipient of the Ethics Association of West Virginia’s Business Ethics Fellowship, and one of 100 Mountaineers advising Governor Cecil H. Underwood on implementation of his Initiative on Race, “One West Virginia 2000.”
